Jephtah’s Daughter:
The year is 1984. A Jewish family is on its way by foot from Ethiopia to Sudan, from where they will board a plane for Israel. The father, whom the family’s life depends on, is seized by brigands. Things change when his eldest daughter comes across the place. The story is typical of what happened to hundreds of Ethiopians on their difficult journey to Israel, in the 1980’s, when they crossed the desert, in order to reach the Promised Land.

In yeshiva when you’re hungry eat. When you’re tired sleep. If you’re not hungry or tired, sit and learn. If you’re not learning, what are you doing here? What happens when you are stuck between success and failure, between faith and doubt? What happens along the edges of the Beit Midrash (Study Hall)?

Mika *Adult Subject Matter:

Mika, a penniless illegal immigrant from the FSU, is living with her baby daughter in a bomb shelter near the Machaneh Yehuda market in Jerusalem. She speaks no Hebrew, and cleans stairwells in order to live. For food, she forages among the market leftovers. When the baby gets sick, Mika has no choice but to make contact with others and to solicit help from the men around her. Instead of kindness, Mika encounters only cynical exploitation.
