“Hidden Treasure: Our Local Holocaust Survivor Community” will be presented by Nancy Gorrell on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 1 PM. at the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC 775 Talamini Road, Bridgewater. The program is $5 and refreshments will be served.

Who are our local survivors? Where did they come from? What are their stories? Come learn about our survivor community from Nancy Gorrell, Founder and Director of the Survivor Registry Project at the Holocaust Memorial and Education Center. This on-going Project includes testimonies, interviews and photographs of nearly 100 survivors in the computer kiosks of the Center. What have we learned? What are we learning? Nancy Gorrell will speak about interviewing survivors and their descendants and the telling results of her research.

Ms. Gorrell is an award-winning New Jersey high school English teacher and Holocaust educator, published poet and writer and former New Jersey State Teacher of the Year, and past President of Jewish Family Service and Temple Sholom. She has spent the last four years as Chairperson for the JCC Holocaust Memorial Committee helping to establish the Holocaust Memorial and Education Center and Survivor Registry Project.

These events are sponsored by Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties as part of its Yearn to Learn Program, “Yearn to Learn: (Y2L) was created by retired and semi-retired persons looking for high quality, interactive learning experiences in small, local group settings, which promote stimulating group interaction, self-exploration and interpersonal connections.
