Junior & High School students: Please join us for an event sponsored by the JFedSHAW’s Community Relations Committee for a viewing of “Beneath the Helmet” and a discussion with Josh Warhit, a young IDF soldier who has recently completed his service. He will share his experiences and what it’s like to go through this “right-of-passage” in Israel.
----
Josh Warhit grew up with a strong sense of Jewish identity in suburban New York, but only after visiting Israel for the first time as a teenager did he realize what a tremendous role Israel played in his life. He went back to Israel every year, and while a student at the University of Rochester advocated for Israel on campus. After earning his Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations, he made Aliyah and enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces. He joined the Nachal infantry brigade, serving in Battalion 931 for two years. He was stationed on the Lebanese border up north, beside Nablus West Bank, and in the summer of 2014 he fought in the northern Gaza Strip during Operation Protective Edge.
Josh completed his military service in November of 2014. After defending Israel ideologically as a student on campus and physically as a combat soldier, he had an enlarged perspective on the issues Israel faces, on the Arab-Israeli conflict in general, and on how to successfully counter the misrepresentations of Israel we see around us. After speaking at universities, synagogues and community centers about his experiences, he joined the StandWithUs team to advocate for Israel on a larger scale and help students become effective pro-Israel leaders in their communities.
