Senior Programs 

The Holocaust Survivor Assistance Program at Jewish Family Service include home health care, companion services, mental health counseling, and case management services. Jews living in New Jersey, who resided in European countries were subjected to Nazi rule and control between 1933 and 1945, are eligable for assistance.

Ohr Tikvah Jewish Outreach Program through Jewish Family Service provides outreach and support to Jewish community members, particularly to individuals who are isolated and living in institutional or group settings such as senior residence, group homes, and special needs facilities to offer them a connection to the Jewish community.

Senior Fitness at the JCC includes Aqua Fitness, Chair Yoga, Fitness Boxing, Cardio Circuit, Strength and Fall Prevention, Silver Vibe, and Zumba Gold.

 Senior Friendly Visitor Program is designed to provide in-home support, information, and advocacy to Somerset County families and frail, isolated seniors in Somerset or Hunterdon counties.

 

Senior Services at Jewish Family Service are designed to serve the needs of the elderly in our community. These programs include Geriatric Assesment, Senior Shopping Program, Family Mentoring Program, and more.

Somerset County Transportation The Division of Transportation provides para-transit services to senior citizens (age 60+) and persons with disabilities (age 18+) for medical, employment , workshops, senior centers, and other destinations as predetermined. The division also provides community transportation to the general public along fixed routes as indicated on the pre-printed time schedules.

Social Events

Empty Nesters Social Group at Kehilat Shalom offers monthly cultural and fun activities including trips to museums, restaurants, potlucks, etc.

Renaissance is a group at Temple Beth-El for congregants 50 years old and up who delight in sharing the joys of Judaism, and the company of other mature Jewish members of the community. Outings have included visits to the lower East Side of Manhattan, museums, gardens, ballgames, the theater, and meals at local restaurants.

Senior Lunches at the JCC are held Wednesdays 12-2 pm. Enjoy a Kosher lunch, entertainment, topical discussions, and conversation. For reservations, please call 908-443-9018 to reserve your spot. Lunch is served at 12 pm, followed by a program at 1pm. Fee: $7.00, or $5.00 for JCC Members.

Lifelong Learning

The Jewish community of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties offers Jewish LIFE (Learning Is For Everyone) programs designed for people of all ages and at all stages of life. Jewish LIFE is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of West-Central New Jersey and the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC, and is presented in partnership with the Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon & Warren Counties as well as all of the Synagogues and Chabad Houses.

Rutgers University Jewish Studies Senior Audit Program - Retired New Jersey residents, age 62 or older, can audit Jewish Studies courses on a space available, noncredit basis. There are no tuition costs for auditing courses.

Oscar and Ella Wilf Campus for Senior Living

The Oscar and Ella Wilf Campus for Senior Living is a not-for-profit senior community committed to caring for the elderly in a way that respects and celebrates Jewish traditions and values. The Campus consists of Stein Assisted Living (including Jaffa Gate Memory Care Neighborhood), Wilf At Home, Stein Hospice, Wilentz Senior Residence, and Wilf Transport.

Wilentz Senior Residence (part of the Wilf Campus for Senior Living) offers tenants the privacy of their own apartments, the peace of mind of a secure, staffed senior housing building, and the convenience and fun of many on-site residential living services and activities. Wilentz is a HUD-subsidized residence open to anyone who is at least 62 years or older or requires special features of handicapped-accessible units for the mobility impaired.

Stein Assisted Living provides personalized assistance with the activities of daily living in a warm, inviting atmosphere that embraces a traditional Jewish lifestyle, including Kosher Dining, and religious services and programs. For those with mild to moderate memory impairment, 24-hour nursing and dementia care is offered by specially trained, professional caregivers through Jaffa Gate, a Memory Care Neighborhood. 

 

Wilf At Home provides compassionate care to those requiring assistance in their private homes, assisted living facilities or long-term care facilities. The caring and professional home health aides, personal care assistants, non-medical companions, live-in certified home health aides, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and RN case managers, help seniors seamlessly navigate the complex healthcare environment.

 

Wilf Transport is a community transportation providing curb-to-curb transportation to keep seniors active and mobile. If necessary, door-to-door service can be provided when arranged in advance. The program provides assisted nonmedical, social, and quality-of-life transportation for seniors and individuals with special needs who are over the age of 18, living in their homes or at assisted living facilities throughout the community.

Stein Hospice offers compassionate, individualized hospice care to patients experiencing a life-limiting illness, and support to their families. They provide care wherever the patient lives and is most comfortable, whether at home, nursing home facility, or assisted living residence. The team of hospice professionals work to relieve pain and suffering and to address the unique physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of each patient and his or her loved ones and caregivers.
